Eight Months Old

December 23, 2014 8 Months Milestones

Our little boy is now eight months old. With the holidays upon us, Kellen is experiencing quite a few firsts, the most exciting of which, Christmas, is right around the corner.

Kellen’s First Thanksgiving

Kellen’s first Thanksgiving was eventful. This year, it was our turn to celebrate Thanksgiving with my family, and Kellen met several family members for the first time. Having skipped last Thanksgiving with my folks - last year was our turn with Aimee’s parents - we also met a few new family members this year, a few of which were very curious about Kellen.

The day after Thanksgiving, we celebrated with Aimee’s family, including Kellen’s cousins, Hayden and McKinley. Hayden and McKinley adore Kellen, especially McKinley; she loves to cuddle with and sing to him.

A New Kind Of Food

We’re now feeding Kellen solids (baby food) twice a day, and we’ll soon be moving to three times a day. We’ve also started letting him eat some finger foods like baby biscuits. He seems to enjoy them, and he definitely likes to get his hands on his food.

Early Mornings

Kellen has been a pretty good sleeper for a while now. Once he goes to bed at night, he typically sleeps through the night, but he’s definitely a morning person… for now, at least. He normally wakes up between 4 and 5 in the morning, although he’ll sleep until 6 or 7 if we push him. This works well during the week when Aimee and I have to work, but I’ve spent many a weekend morning entertaining him before the sun’s come up.

A Visit With Nana & Grandpa

We stopped by Kellen’s Nana and Grandpa Derrin’s place (Aimee’s folks) for a little pre-Christmas visit. They’d seen Kellen briefly around Thanksgiving, but this provided for a more one-on-one visit. I also got to meet their new pup, Jack.

Budding Photographer

Having a photographer as a dad, Kellen’s had a camera pointed at him since minutes after birth. He somehow knows to look into the camera when I’m taking a photo. Many times, while trying to take a candid photo of him, he’ll look into the camera as soon as he hears the camera click. I’d like to think he’ll take an interest in photography himself one day. Seems like we’re not far off - that’s my camera strap he’s holding (below, right)…

Christmas Is Coming!

Aimee and I are excited beyond words to celebrate our first Christmas with Kellen. He’s excited too. He’s been practicing his paper handling skills.
